Aquaplus’ Utawarerumono game series is about to get another anime adaptation. Aquaplus director Naoya Shimokawa took to Twitter to reveal plans for a TV anime based on the concluding installment, Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth, which hit PS4 and PS Vita in the west courtesy of Atlus back in 2017.
There aren’t many details to go on at the moment. The last time Utawarerumono came to TV was in the 2015 anime Utawarerumono: The False Faces, which was preceded by 2006’s Utawarerumono adaptation.
Here’s how publisher Atlus describes the Mask of Truth game:
After the events of Mask of Deception, the Yamato Empire is now ruled with an iron fist by a ruthless usurper who seeks to subjugate all before him. It’s up to a couple of familiar faces to band together against the might of the Imperial army, and the fate of the world hangs in the balance as nations and generals must pick a side to fight with in this perilous civil war. Secrets will be revealed, friendships will be tested, and battles will be fought. Will peace and order be restored or will victory at any cost be the beginning of the end?
