Following an unveiling last month during Music Station Ultra Fes 2018, the full version of YOSHIKI feat. HYDE’s opening theme for the third season of Attack on Titan, “Red Swan,” was finally released on October 3. There’s plenty to celebrate about the release, as it debuted at #1 on the iTunes Rock Charts in Japan, Finland, Greece, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Brazil, and Hong Kong.
“Red Swan” is still on the rise, too. The single is currently in the top 10 on the mainstream iTunes charts in 16 countries, and it’s climbing up the iTunes Rock charts in the U.S. at #6 and in the UK at #8. This is the first time in history that a Japanese anime song has ranked this high on the iTunes Rock charts, which is a huge milestone for both J-Rock and anime as a whole.
This serves as further proof of the ever-increasing popularity of anime in the mainstream and the recent Asian wave in western music, from Korean boy band sensation BTS to the pint-sized metal queens of BABYMETAL. The success of “Red Swan” also owes to the individual popularity of X Japan’s YOSHIKI, L’Arc-en-Ciel’s HYDE, and Hajime Isayama’s colossally successful Attack on Titan franchise.

Hopefully this is just the beginning of a full-on anime/J-Rock takeover on charts throughout the world. In the meantime, get the single for yourself from the iTunes Store!
