Masaaki Yuasa’s Night Is Short, Walk on Girl Wins Best Feature at Ottawa Animation Festival

Night is Short, Walk on Girl

Those Ottawans know what’s up.

The Ottawa International Animation Festival has awarded Masaaki Yuasa’s Night Is Short, Walk on Girl with its grand prize for feature films.

Yuasa’s other 2017 film, Lu Over the Wall, was also nominated for the award, making it the first time in festival history the same director had two films in competition.

Night is Short, Walk on Girl, which debuted in Japan in April, is an adaptation of a novel by Tomihiko Morimi (Tatami Galaxy) about a group of misfits partying their way through the night in Kyoto. We liked it a lot.

The festival’s top prize for short films went to “Ugly” by Nikita Diakur.

North America’s largest film festival dedicated to animation, OIAF ran from September 20 to 24 in Ottawa, Canada.
