Ping Pong Director Yuasa Wins Award, Directs New Film

As if one giant anime event weren’t enough, the Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2015 also took place this past weekend, and the prize for best anime TV series of the year went to Masaaki Yuasa’s adaptation of Taiyo Matsumoto’s Ping Pong.

The 11 episode series, which ran from April to June last year, aired on Fuji TV’s noitaminA programming block and was streamed by Funimation in the States.

Director Yuasa also announced the same day via a handwritten note that he is working on a new original theatrical animated film. Yuasa also announced animation director Nobutake Ito is on the project.

Yuasa, whose other credits include Kick-Heart, The Tatami Galaxy, and Kemonozume, will be directing his first film since 2004’s Mind Game.

Consider us psyched.
