January 28, 2011 File Vertical Inc. Osamu Tezuka releases under “things I can’t get enough of.” I’m sure the same can be said for many of you readers out there, and Vertical knows this well. Hence the addition of Tezuka’s 1953-1956 shoujo series Princess Knight to their ever-expanding library.
Princess Knight—which follows a princess raised as a boy in order to inherit her kingdom’s throne—is but one of two Kodansha titles added to the Vertical lineup. It will be published in two volumes, with the first 384-page collection set to hit shelves on October 4. The second (330 pages) will be available on December 6.
The other title from Kodansha is a much more recent pick. Drops of God (Kami no Shizuku) follows a young man tasked with the identification of 13 wines in competition for his late father’s vast inheritance. Drops of God is also a much longer series than most of Vertical’s library, currently at 27 volumes in Japan. However, each of Vertical’s releases will contain the equivalent of two Japanese volumes.
Finally, Vertical’s Ed Chavez also confirmed that Vertical will be publishing Usamaru Furuya’s manga adaptation of Osamu Dazai’s novel No Longer Human. The first of three volumes is scheduled for release on September 27.
