49th Kodansha Manga Award Results Announced

49th Kodansha Manga Award Results AnnouncedAfter almost 50 years, the annual Kodansha Manga Award is one of Japan’s most prestigious, well, manga awards. The winner of this year in all three categories were just announced, so let’s check ‘em out.

The award for shōnen manga went to Versus, the manga written by One, illustrated by Kyotaro Azuma and featuring story composition by bose. In print since 2023, the manga runs in Monthly Shōnen Sirius. Here’s how Kodansha USA describes it:

The compelling and long-awaited new action epic from ONE, the author of One-Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100! Humanity cowers in fear in a world ruled by demons…but a brigade of humanity’s 47 strongest heroes band together in a final attempt to wrest the world back!

The award for shōjo manga went to Fall in Love, You False Angels, which is written and illustrated by Coco Uzuki. It’s run in the pages of Dessert in April since 2023. Here’s how Kodansha USA describes it:

The Japanese hit manga rom-com comes to print! The sweet smiles across the faces of the “perfect” student council duo hide secret, tough-as-nails personalities. These two-faced angels vie for dominance through manipulative schemes…but how long will it take for contention to give way to attraction?

Finally, the general award went to Historie by Hitoshi Iwaaki. It’s the sempai of the list, having run since 2003, though it only became available in English last year. Here’s how K Manga describes it:
