Yuri sci-fi anime is on the menu with the upcoming premiere of Otherside Picnic, which is scheduled for January 4 in Japan. Ahead of that, a pair of new commercials are here to show off more footage along with a preview of the anime’s opening theme, “Ugly Creatures” by CHICO with Honeyworks.
Otherside Picnic is based on the novel of the same name by Iori Miyazawa, with illustrations by shirakaba. J-Novel Club publishes the first-time novelist’s work in English, and you can see the brief new promos for the anime below.
Funimation plans to simulcast the anime as it airs. Here’s how J-Novel Club describes it:
Her first encounter with Toriko Nishina was on the Otherside after seeing “that thing” and nearly dying. Ever since that day, exhausted university student Sorawo Kamikoshi’s life changed. In this Otherworld, full of mystery, which exists alongside our own, dangerous beings like the Kunekune and Hasshaku-sama that are spoken of in real ghost stories appear. For research, for profit, and to find an important person, Toriko and Sorawo set foot into the abnormal.
