Yowamushi Pedal Stage Play Opens in Tokyo

Starting today, theatergoers in Tokyo are in for some bicycle action, as the Yowamushi Pedal stage play opens for a three-day run at Tokyo Dome City Hall.

The play, titled Yomamushi Pedal Irregular ~Two Peaks~ is based on the manga and anime of the same name, debuted earlier this month in Nagoya and will move to Osaka and Fukuoka over the next few weeks.

A gallery of images posted from yesterday’s performance, which was held for the press, shows how exactly the play’s creators got around the problem of having bicycles on stage: namely, the actors hold on to a set of floating handlebars. That works.

The play is directed and written by Nishida Shatner, who took his stage name from the one and only William, and stars Tomoki Hirose as Yusuke Makishima. Hirose also played the character in the 2013 stage play Yowamushi Pedal Inter-High Chapter: The Winner.
