While anime is spreading to just about every streaming platform imaginable (Bleach on Disney+ is still blowing our minds), it’s a fact that there are just a couple of major anime streamers we tend to turn to for our watchlists. The good news is, it’s easy to find most new titles; the bad news is, some may get lost in the shuffle. And there are a handful of fresh new winter anime that will be a little further afield than Crunchyroll or HIDIVE.
Make sure you don’t miss out on these three brand-new titles. We’ll tell you when they’re starting and where to go to see them, so your winter watchlist is complete!
Ishura
The now Disney+-adjacent Hulu already had its fair share of anime, from Fullmetal Alchemist to the continuing Undead Unluck and Synduality: Noir. But its returning titles aren’t all it’s bringing to the winter anime season. In the US, it’s home to Ishura: an adaptation of Keiso’s action-packed light novel series about a roster of uniquely powerful warriors.
Set in a fantasy world whose demon king has recently died, the series follows these demigods as they test their unique abilities against the world’s foes. The first episode is already out now on Hulu, so you can dive right into all the intense action!
Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation
Here’s a little something for all the One Piece fans! A one-shot drawn by Eiichiro Oda when he was 19 years old has been adapted into a new anime. And, unlike Oda’s other short subjects, Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation actually is canon to his beloved pirate epic. That’s because our hero is Shimotsuki Ryuma, seen in One Piece as a zombie but very much alive in Monsters.
The story follows a young Ryuma as he, along with new acquaintances Flare and Cyrano, face down a destructive dragon. Swordplay and double-crossing ensue… but when exactly it ensues is yet to be revealed. We do know, however, that the adaptation will be coming to Netflix sometime this month.
Delicious in Dungeon
Trigger doing a food anime? Yes, please! The SSSS.GRIDMAN and Promare studio will be making the winter anime lineup a little tastier with Delicious in Dungeon, based on Ryōko Kui’s Dungeon Meshi. The series follows an adventuring party on a mission to rescue Falin, an ally who was eaten by a dragon and will be digested in a month. To sustain themselves, and because Falin’s brother Laios really wants to, they sustain themselves on the monsters they defeat along the way.
You can find the new series on Netflix starting today! Be sure to have a snack beforehand, though… we have a feeling this show is going to make us hungry.
