Otaku USA Magazine
Warner Developing Live-action Death Note

Consider this a brisk breeze of News From Late Last Week, but it bears repeating, for those that missed it, as we drive full force into May. Warner Bros. has picked up the rights to Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata’s Death Note manga, and are looking to bringing an American live-action version to theaters. Screenwriters Charley and Vlas Parlapanides are handling the script, which, as far as one can tell at this time, sticks to the premise of a high-schooler finding the eponymous notebook and putting it to use.

Technically this isn’t Warner’s first foray into the series, since Warner Bros. Pictures Japan produced the three Death Note films that are out now, but I have to admit to being pretty curious to see how well it will adapt over here. The US version is also sticking to the original manga for material rather than mining the films that already exist. So, is this the point where fans start knocking out dream casts? Who would you love to see portraying Light on the big screen?
