One of the anime greats is no longer with us, as famed director Noboru Ishiguro has passed at the age of 73. The veteran director helmed many projects, from Space Battleship Yamato to the 1980 remake of Astro Boy.

In 1978, he founded Macross co-producing studio Artland, which has also worked on titles from classic anime like Orguss to more modern productions like Demon King Daimao and Katekyo Hitman Reborn!.
