The Twilight Out of Focus anime is on the way to adapt Jyanome’s boys’ love manga of the same name this July, and while we wait there’s a new teaser trailer previewing more footage.

Twilight Out of Focus is being made at Studio DEEN, with Toshinori Watanabe of Tokyo Ghoul:re and Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest helming the project as director. The person handling series composition is Yoshimi Narita, whose credits include Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie and Wonderful Precure! Credit for character design goes to Yoko Kikuchi, who is known for working on Kuroko’s Basketball and Junjo Romantica.
Looking toward the cast, Shin Furukawa plays Zin Kikuchihara, Masatomo Nakazawa plays Giichi Ichikawa, Yūma Uchida plays Hisashi Otomo, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka plays Mao Tsuchiya, Takuya Eguchi plays Rei Inaba, and Sōma Saitō plays Shion Yoshino.
The series started as a manga series by Jyanome. After initially publishing it as a digital-only release in 2022, Kodansha USA Publishing began publishing physical copies. The series was given this description for its plot:
Film enthusiast Mao Tsuchiya and his lone wolf roommate Hisashi Otomo make three promises:
1. That Mao will never tell anyone that Hisashi is gay and has a boyfriend,
2. That Hisashi will never approach Mao “in that way,” and
3.That they’ll respect each other’s “private time.”
The second-years’ ground rules should ensure a peaceful life together in their dorm, but reality is never as simple as it seems in the movies, and some things are not so easily promised…
The manga first debuted in Japan in 2019, being published in Honey Milk, a digital BL magazine from Kodansha. It also has a spinoff story titled Twilight Out of Focus 2: Afterimages in Slow Motion.
