Town of Evening Calm Manga Becomes Planetarium Show

In a not so common “adaptation” move, the Hiroshima Children’s Museum has whisked the award-winning manga Town of Evening Calm, Country of Cherry Blossoms into a 50-minute planetarium show.

With supervision from original mangaka Fumiyo Kono, the show combines 130 frames from the comic—which originally ran from 2003-2004 in Futabasha’s Weekly Manga Action—with motion, voices and special effects.

Last Gasp put the book out in North America, and it went on to win one of New York Magazine‘s 2007 Culture Awards, so definitely give it a read if you haven’t had the chance yet. For those in Japan, the planetarium show at the Hiroshima Children’s Museum runs from April 24 to September 5.
