Anime Heroes Who Bring the Thunder (and Lightning) Like Thor

Thor calls the lightning - and so do these stars

This summer, the MCU is bringing back everyone’s favorite affable Norse god… and a few old friend. Thor: Love and Thunder is preparing to bring back Taika Waititi’s electrifying take on Chris Hemsworth’s Avenger. But that’s not ’til July. It’s February right now. We need some thunderbolts and lightning.

We are, of course, happy to oblige.

Could any of these anime heroes wield Mjolnir? We’re not sure; that’s a big ask. But they could definitely pull down a storm.

Denki Kaminari

Denki Kaminari

Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, and the rest of the MCU would be right at home in the world of My Hero Academia. Hell, All Might hung out with Deadpool that one time. So we’re kicking things off with Denki Kaminari, a.k.a. Stun Gun Hero: Chargebolt. Denki is friendly, energetic, well-meaning despite his rash behavior, and a little on the doofy side. Sounds like a certain Norse god we know.

We’re not sure Denki would be a safe bet for the Avengers, though. On the one hand, he can shoot 1.3 million volts (and more) out of his body. On the other, he’s pretty much useless for an hour after. Brain fry will do that to you.

Sailor Jupiter

Sailor Jupiter

Talk about your thunder gods: Makoto Kino from Sailor Moon is nothing to sneeze at. As Sailor Jupiter, shes’s a shocking combination of lightning powers and brute force. Appropriately, Thor is associated with the planet (and god) Jupiter. So of course we had to include her.

Now, could Makoto life Mjolnir? Probably not. Then again, a lot of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes can’t budge it. If there’s anyone in Sailor Moon who’s worthy, it’s probably Naru. We’re only half joking.

Lum

Lum Invader

She’s from another world. She’s powerful. She falls in love with a human. That’s about where the similarities with Thor end. Lum is, after all, our favorite tiger-stripe-bikini’d anime girlfriend. Her long run in Urusei Yatsura — the manga, then the anime — set her up as the anime world’s darling.

What about her? Could she wield Mjolnir?… We’re pretty sure she’s not interested one way or another. All she wants is for Ataru to admit he’s in love with her. Considering everything that gets in the way, from love rivals to time loops, it’s a rough road. But, like Thor in Love and Thunder, she’ll be back this year!
