The Rising of the Shield Hero 2 Releases English-Subbed Trailer

Ahead of The Rising of the Shield Hero 2‘s April debut, an English-subtitled trailer has been released. In it you can hear the opening theme song “Bring Back” being performed by MADKID.

The trailer also lets us know that Kana Hanazawa will be playing Ost Horai. This visual was additionally shared to get fans excited about the premiere.

We don’t hear it in this trailer, but it’s been announced that the ending song will be called “Yuzurenai” and performed by Chiai Fujikawa. The creation of a second season was originally announced in 2019. It was supposed to come out in 2021, but with COVID throwing off so many things, we all know how well that schedule went.

This season is being directed by Masato Jinbo of Chaos;Child, taking over for Takao Abo, who directed the first season. Keigo Koyanagi is back for series composition, Kevin Penkin is back as the composer, and Masahiro Suwa is back to adapt character designs for animation.

The Rising of the Shield Hero started out as a light novel series and has since gotten a manga adaptation. One Peace Books sells both (along with a light novel audiobook) and gave this description of the first novel:

“Naofumi Iwatani, an uncharismatic otaku who spends his days on games and manga, suddenly finds himself summoned to a parallel universe! He discovers he is one of four heroes equipped with legendary weapons and tasked with saving the world from its prophesied destruction. As the Shield Hero, the weakest of the heroes, all is not as it seems. Naofumi is soon alone, penniless, and betrayed. With no one to turn to, and nowhere to run, he is left with only his shield. Now, Naofumi must rise to become the legendary Shield Hero and save the world!”
