Sword Art Online is a multimedia phenomenon, and its reach is about to extend to the world of board games.
aims to bring the virtual world action to tabletops with Sword Art Online The Board Game: Sword of Fellows, and a Kickstarter campaign will officially kick off later this month.
The Sword Art Online board game comes from Mr. Seiji Kanai, the renowned designer behind games like Love Letter and R-Rivals. Set in the world of Aincrad, players will be able to step into the role of their favorite characters from the anime adaptation of author Reki Kawahara’s popular light novels. As they attempt to escape the deadly game world, they’ll be tasked with taking on an assortment of enemies using equipment cards, potions, devastating sword chain attacks, and more.
While the Kickstarter for Sword of Fellows is scheduled to coincide with the hotly-anticipated theatrical screenings of Sword Art Online The Movie -Ordinal Scale-, the actual release won’t be too far behind. Japanime Games is working closely with Arclight Games and Kadokawa with the goal of launching the board game in July 2017.
