Switch 2 Price Stays the Same, But Accessories Will Cost More Because of Tariffs

Fans wanting their Switch 2 have been waiting through uncertainty, because Nintendo pulled the original pre-order date for Americans (and Canadians) after President Trump put tariffs on many goods coming into the United States. Now Nintendo has put out an update, including the fact that the new retail pre-order date is April 24.

Many wondered if the tariffs would affect the price of Switch 2, which was already more expensive than a lot of people anticipated, coming in at $449.99. Essentially, Nintendo had to decide if it would have customers pay more, or if it would lose money. And its work with China, Vietnam and other countries being hit big by tariffs also throws things off.

At the end of the day, Nintendo has decided to keep the cost of the Switch 2 at $449.99. Likewise, the prices for the Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle, plus the physical and digital versions of Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, will not be altered because of the tariffs.

That doesn’t mean everything is staying the same, though. Nintendo explained, “Nintendo Switch 2 accessories will experience price adjustments from those announced on April 2 due to changes in market conditions. Other adjustments to the price of any Nintendo product are also possible in the future depending on market conditions.”

Many of the accessories will now cost $5 or $10 more. So, for instance, the Joy-Con 2 was supposed to be $90, but will now be $95, and the pro Controller was originally priced at $80 but will be sold for $85. And Nintendo’s statement did make it clear that it knows it might have to raise prices again, depending on what happens.

Nintendo continued, “We apologize for the retail pre-order delay, and hope this reduces some of the uncertainty our customers may be experiencing. We thank our customers for their patience, and we share their excitement to experience Nintendo Switch 2 starting June 5, 2025.”
