Since opening in December, the SPY x FAMILY CODE: White anime film has done very well for itself in Japan. The latest milestone for the feature has it passing the five billion yen milestone, while also staying at the top of the box office for four weekends in a row. It was finally dethroned last weekend with the premiere of the live-action Golden Kamuy film.
According to Japanese box office tracker Kogyo Tsushin, SPY x FAMILY CODE: White has made over 5.2 billion yen, which adds up to around US$36.06 million on over 3.89 million tickets sold. You can see a celebratory group photo of the crew from a recent stage event at the top of this article.
The movie was made at WIT STUDIO and CloverWorks, with Takashi Katagiri helming the project as director. Katagiri has worked on SPY x FAMILY as a storyboarder, assistant director and episode director. Mangaka Tatsuya Endō is involved by supervising SPY×FAMILY CODE: White. The script was penned by Ichiro Okouchi, who has done series composition for the franchise before. Credit for music production goes to [K]NoW_NAME, while credit for character design goes to Kazuaki Shimada, and credit for chief animation directing goes to Kyoji Asano.
The movie will hit American theaters sometime in 2024, though an exact season or date has yet to be released. It’s not based on anything from the manga and instead sports a brand-new yarn.
