This year marks 37 years since the original Japanese broadcast of Yoroiden Samurai Trooper, known simply as Samurai Troopers in English and previously localized for television as Ronin Warriors. Now, to mark the latest anniversary for the original 1988-1989 series, Sunrise has a special screening planned for the Shinjuku Piccadilly theater in Tokyo on June 11.
The screening will consist of three selected episodes of the series, and special guests are set to attend. Those guests include Ryo Sanada voice actor Takeshi Kusao and original yoroi gears designer Hideo Okamoto.
You can see a nostalgic trailer for the series thanks to the below commercial for the Blu-ray box set that celebrated the anime’s 30th anniversary back in 2018.
Samurai Troopers is currently available to stream on Crunchyroll, which describes the series like so:
Long ago, there existed an evil spirit that waged a war to conquer the human world. Defeat drove him back to the realm of darkness, but not before vowing to return and exact his revenge. A thousand years later, the world has all but forgotten the name of Arago, Emperor of Doom. When black clouds smother the bright city lights of Shinjuku, and a sinister laugh drowns out the dying hum of electricity, the people of the world plunge into terror, unprepared for the evil spirit’s return!
