Porco Rosso Voice Actor Syuichiro Moriyama Passes Away at 86

It’s time to say farewell to a legend, because actor and voice actor Syuichiro Moriyama has passed away at the age of 86. Moriyama was known for many roles over the course of his 63-year career, and fans of Studio Ghibli films will no doubt know him as the voice behind the lead in Hayao Miyazaki’s 1992 classic Porco Rosso.

According to his management office, Moriyama passed away due to complications with pneumonia. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Keiko, as well as three children and two grandchildren, and a funeral will be held with family in attendance.

Other anime roles for which Moriyama is known include King Gurumes in Dragon Ball: Curse of the Blood Rubies, Zhuqiaomon in Digimon Tamers, and the narrator in Jormungand. Beyond anime, Moriyama voiced Cid in Final Fantasy Type-0 and had a storied career in live-action television and film productions.
