What would happen if someone stayed active in an MMORPG after the service went offline? In the case of the protagonist of Overlord, otherwise an ordinary salaryman, he becomes a powerful skeletal wizard. Following this transformation, he remains in the game, attracting followers and conquering the digital realm in his new form.
Based on the series of dark fantasy light novels written by Kugane Maruyama and illustrated by so-bin, Overlord is officially scheduled to premiere on TV in Japan on July 7. The show will start on AT-X, with broadcasts to follow on Tokyo MX, TV Aichi, Sun TV, and KBS Tokyo on July 8, and BS11 on July 9.
Overlord is being produced by Madhouse, with Naoyuki Itou (Re: Cutie Honey) directing, Yukie Sugawara (Sword Art Online) writing, and Takahiro Yoshimatsu (Hunter x Hunter) handling character designs and animation direction.
