Nintendo’s next console, sometimes referred to in the press as the “Switch 2,” had been rumored to launch during this year’s holiday period. But it’s now reported that the console will instead debut in the first quarter of 2025.
This hasn’t been confirmed by Nintendo, but has been reported out by several reputable organizations, including Bloomberg and Eurogamer.
Eurogamer says the shift to 2025 is to “ensure Switch 2’s launch line-up features as many titles as possible.”
Previous leaks and rumors say the console will be a home/portable hybrid like the Switch and feature a bigger, 8-inch screen. It reportedly has enough processing power to run titles like Call of Duty, though will ostensibly be less powerful than the current-generation Xbox and PlayStation consoles.
The Switch, which hit shelves in 2017, has sold over 139 million units, making it one of the best-selling game consoles of all time. Here’s looking forward to the next iteration—even if a little bit later than we were expecting.
