Hey, it turns out the Nintendo Switch has been a pretty big success for Nintendo! As if the evidence wasn’t piled up enough already, the latest numbers are in straight from the source, with the company boasting that the console has sold over 120 million units around the world. This rockets it past the lifetime sales of Sony’s PlayStation 4, as well as Nintendo’s own Game Boy and Game Boy Color handhelds.
The exact number from Nintendo’s investor relations portal site has Switch at 122.55 million units sold as of December 31. Switch is now the third best-selling console of all time, with only Nintendo DS and PlayStation 2 pulling in higher numbers over the years. Switch is also the best-performing console for Nintendo as far as software is concerned, with sales totals reaching an incredible 994.30 million units. Digital software sales are up, as well, from 40.2% the previous year up to 46.2% of all software sales.
Nintendo first launched the Switch back on March 3, 2017. The crown of the most-purchased version of Nintendo Switch currently rests upon the head of the latest model, the OLED version, and while hardware sales have declined each year, the number of playing customers has risen to 112 million people.
