More details were recently revealed for the new Slam Dunk movie, which will have original creator Takehiko Inoue both writing and directing. Now we have a new teaser visual, showing the five main members of Shohoku High School’s basketball team huddling in preparation for a match.
The new Slam Dunk movie is currently slated to premiere in Japan in fall of 2022. In addition to Inoue as director and writer, the film features Yasuyuki Ebara of Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress as the character designer/animation director. Katsuhiko Kitada, who worked on episodes of Attack on Titan; Naoki Miyahara, who worked on Digimon Adventure; Toshio Ōhashi, who worked on LayereD Stories 0; and Yū Kamatani, who worked on Precure Super Stars! are all technical directors
VIZ Media, which publishes the original manga in English, gave this description of the bestselling series:
“Winning isn’t everything in the game of basketball, but who wants to come in second? It takes dedication and discipline to be the best, and the Shohoku High hoops team wants to be just that. They have one last year to make their captain’s dream of reaching the finals come true—will they do it?”
VIZ Media also gave this description of Takehiko Inoue:
“Inoue is the recipient of numerous awards, including the prestigious Tezuka Osamu Culture Award and the Media Arts Festival Award. In addition to manga, Inoue has worked on television commercials and character designs for video games, and is the founder of a scholarship to foster Japanese basketball talent.”
