Netflix Picks Up American Death Note Film

The Hollywood adaptation of Death Note took one more step closer to becoming a reality today with the news that streaming site Netflix is in final negotiations to pick up the project.

Netflix is looking to start shooting Death Note in June.

Death Note will be directed by Adam Wingard (The Guest) and star Nat Wolff (Paper Towns) and Margaret Qualley (The Leftovers). According to producer Roy Lee, the film is “definitely for adults” and is unlikely to be rated below R.

The most recent draft of the film was written by Jeremy Slater (Fantastic Four).

The project was originally slated to be produced at Warner Bros.
