Anime is big everywhere, man, and that includes the Middle East and North Africa. Enter MBC Group, a major broadcaster for the region, which has just launched a “hub” called MBC Anime. That hub will work on licensing, promoting and producing anime for the region, says Variety.
The other partner in the MBC Anime project is US distributor Tokyopop and its founder and CEO Stu Levy.
“During the first investment period, MBC Anime aims to forge substantive relationships with key anime studios in Japan, supporting and investing in a multitude of compelling projects,” said MBC Group in a statement.
Meanwhile, Levy was quoted as saying: “Having worked with the talented team at MBC Group over the past couple of years, I’ve been impressed by their licensing approach and dedication to the space. Their commitment to not only anime, but building long-term relationships in Japan made me confident of the real potential for exciting growth opportunities working together.”
We’ll see what kind of anime projects emerge from this new partnership in the coming years.
