Back in July we caught a fresh trailer for the Lonely Castle in the Mirror anime film, which adapts the novel of the same name by Mizuki Tsujimura. Now we have a new cast addition via the official website, which has revealed Mana Ashida as the voice for a mysterious, wolf mask-wearing girl named Okami-sama. She gathers protagonist Kokoro and the rest of the seven junior high school students in the titular castle in the mirror and holds the key to the mysteries behind it all.
Here’s Ashida next to the Okami-sama design:
Mana Ashida had the following to say about the opportunity:
I am a big fan of Mizuki Tsujimura-san, so I still somewhat can’t believe to be a part of the world of a story that I really love, and I am also really happy about it. When I first read the original story, I was close in age to the main characters, so I was surprised at how much they represented our feelings. Now that I am older and closer to adulthood, reading the story again, I feel that the characters’ very straight and pure feelings remind me of something, and I think one of the charms of Tsujimura-san’s works is that they connect adults and children. I hope that many people around the same age as Kokoro, as well as many more adults, will see this film.
There’s a new trailer to go along with the news:
The novel, about teenagers in Tokyo pulled into a mysterious world, was published in Japan back in 2017 and in English last year. Here’s how Doubleday describes the novel:
In a tranquil neighbourhood of Tokyo, seven teenagers wake to find their bedroom mirrors are shining.
At a single touch, they are pulled from their lonely lives to a wondrous castle filled with winding stairways, watchful portraits and twinkling chandeliers. In this new sanctuary, they are confronted with a set of clues leading to a hidden room where one of them will be granted a wish. But there’s a catch: if they don’t leave the castle by five o’clock, they will be punished.
As time passes, a devastating truth emerges: only those brave enough to share their stories will be saved.
