Live-Action Legend of Kamui Teaser Trailer

Regardless of one’s familiarity with Sanpei Shirato‘s Legend of Kamui manga, the upcoming film adaptation from director Yoichi Sai (Blood and Bones) looks like it could be shaping up nicely. It helps if you’re a sucker for historical fiction peppered with swords and screams, but that should describe a healthy chunk of readers out there. Shirato’s manga was one of the first published by Viz in the US, with the original running in Garo from 1964-1971.

The lead in this adaptation, Kenichi Matsuyama, is fresh off some major manga rolls of a different variety. He played Soichi Negishi in Toshio Lee’s movie version of Detroit Metal City and, far from the rock and roll lifestyle therein, L in the Death Note films. Not a bad track record, and if he keeps going in this direction maybe he’ll end up acting out more gekiga manga than shonen. Check out the trailer below.
