We still have a decent wait ahead of us before the live-action Fullmetal Alchemist movie adaptation hits theaters in Japan, but it’s currently shooting in Volterra, Italy. That means Italian newspaper La Nazione had an opportunity to snap a few photos on location, including one that shows lead character Edward Elric as portrayed by actor Ryōsuke Yamada.
Once filming in Italy comes to an end, the film will finish shooting in Japan in late August, and it’s currently set to open in winter 2017. Fumihiko Sori, who previously adapted Taiyo Matsumoto’s Ping Pong manga, is directing the feature. He says, “I want to create a style that follows the original manga as much as possible. The cast is entirely Japanese, but the cultural background is Europe. However, it’s a style that doesn’t represent a specific race or country.”
Here are the shots, starting with Yamada as Ed.
