Ken Akamatsu Sets End Date for UQ HOLDER! Manga as He Prepares to Enter Politics

uq holder!

We previously reported about Love Hina creator Ken Akamatsu’s foray into the world of Japanese politics, and naturally that means there isn’t much time for manga. As Akamatsu prepares to run in next summer’s upper house election for a seat in Japan’s parliament, he announced an end date for his current manga series, UQ HOLDER!.

According to Akamatsu, the UQ HOLDER! manga will officially end in the March issue of Bessatsu Shonen Magazine, which hits stands in Japan on February 9. The 28th and final collected volume of the series will then follow with a release on March 9.

The UQ HOLDER! manga first started in Weekly Shonen Magazine in August 2013, and then moved to Bessatsu Shonen Magazine in October 2016. Kodansha Comics publishes the manga in English and describes it:

Negi Springfield, the boy wizard of the hit manga Negima!, fought and won many battles. Now it is decades later and Negi’s grandson(!), a little boy name Touta, dreams of leaving his quiet village and heading to the City. But first he must defeat his teacher … the immortal vampire, Evangeline! Witness the dramatic beginning of a futuristic battle fantasy—the newest series by Ken Akamatsu, creator of Love Hina and Negima!
