Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 to Premiere in July 2025

Last weekend’s Jump Festa ’25 event shared some important news about the Kaiju No. 8 anime. For starters, the second season is set to premiere in July 2025, with Crunchyroll streaming. There’s also a new preview for the compilation movie, which uses footage from the first season. It will have a limited release in Japan, debuting on March 28. There was also the promise that it will receive a “worldwide” release, though we don’t have details on that yet.

The compilation movie won’t just be recycled material. It will have a segment with a new, original episode titled “Hoshina’s Day Off.” Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma mangaka Yūto Tsukuda came up with the story for it, and Yuichiro Kido of Dr. STONE penned the script. The new episode will be about Reno and Hoshina when they, as the title indicates, have a day off.

The ending theme song for the new episode is “Invincible (from Kaiju No. 8)” performed by OneRepublic.

A subtitled trailer for the compilation film, as well as a visual for the second season, were both released. Here is the trailer.

VIZ Media publishes the original manga by Naoya Matsumoto (check out Otaku USA‘s review) and gave this description for the first volume.

Kaiju No. 8 Plot

Kafka hopes to one day keep his pact with his childhood friend Mina to join the Japan Defense Force and fight by her side. But while she’s out neutralizing kaiju as Third Division captain, Kafka is stuck cleaning up the aftermath of her battles. When a sudden rule change makes Kafka eligible for the Defense Force, he decides to try out for the squad once more. There’s just one problem—he’s made the Defense Force’s neutralization list under the code name Kaiju No. 8.
