Japanese Baseball Team to Wear Pikachu Helmets

Japanese Baseball Team to Wear Pikachu HelmetsIt’s a match made in heaven — er, Yokohama, anyway. For a three-game series starting June 30, the Yokohama DeNA Baystars baseball team will leave their usual helmets on the bench and and instead don official Pikachu helmets.

It’s part of an event dubbed “Pokemon Ballpark Yokohama,” which is being held in anticipation of this year’s Pokemon World Championships, also taking place in Yokohama later in the summer.

The Baystars’ caps will also feature a special Pikachu touch, as seen below.

33-year-old Baystars catcher Yasutaka Tobashira had this to say:

“I play Pokemon myself, so I’m really looking forward to this event. I play all four of the games being used in the World Championships. I can’t wait to play baseball in this Pikachu helmet.”

That weekend’s opposing team, by the way, is the Chunichi Dragons, who are gonna be so jealous.
