I May Be a Guild Receptionist Illustrator Gaou Confesses to Sex Crime on Livestream

Artist Gaou, whose credits include being the illustrator for the light novel series I May Be a Guild Receptionist, but I’ll Solo Any Boss to Clock Out on Time and Welcome to the Outcast’s Restaurant!, has lost multiple jobs after confessing during a livestream to allegedly doing sexual things with an underage girl.

The livestream consisted of a host, Gaou, and the girl in question. The girl reported that Gaou did something sexual to her three years ago, when she was 14. (In Japan, the age of consent is 16, though some acts are still illegal until a person is eighteen.) As a 17-year-old, she dated Gaou briefly, but then they broke up.

The girl said she wants to talk with her parents about potentially approaching the police. She seems to want their advice before making a decision.

In the same livestream, Gaou said he was sorry and that he believes he has “no choice” other than to retire now that this information has become public.

Dengeki Bunko and Overlap Bunko, the Japanese publishers behind I May Be a Guild Receptionist and Welcome to the Outcast’s Restaurant!, each released statements saying that Gaou is no longer involved with the projects. He has lost other art jobs as well. It also looks like a new artist will be paid to redo the artwork for the already existing volumes of I May Be a Guild Receptionist, but I’ll Solo Any Boss to Clock Out.

Kaiten Books publishes the manga adaptation of Welcome to the Outcast’s Restaurant, and Yen Press publishes the I May Be a Guild Receptionist, but I’ll Solo Any Boss to Clock Out on Time light novels.
