Hollywood Wants a Slice of Detroit Metal City

Kiminori Wakasugi’s Detroit Metal City manga has really been skyrocketing of late, what with the anime adaptation in full swing and Toshio Li’s live-action version getting a lot of attention. The latter has apparently been garnering more and more interest outside of fan circles and gag manga-loving salarymen, because in addition to a slew of distribution agreements—offers for which have reportedly come from 25 other countries and regions—Hollywood seems to have their eye on a remake, as well.

Hong Kong has also approached with remake offers, and it should be interesting to see who, if anyone, ends up developing their country’s own take on Negishi Soichi‘s rise from prefectural pop singer to makeup-covered heavy metal frontman, Johannes Krauser II.
