According to producer Northrop Davis, in response to a question by Patrick Macias at the grand opening of New People in San Francisco this past weekend, he has pitched a notable batch of manga properties to studios in Hollywood. These titles are some real whammies: Kentaro Miura’s Berserk, Keisuke Itagaki’s Baki the Grappler, and Keiji Nakazawa’s Barefoot Gen.
Davis is also involved with the US adaptation rights to the Japanese drama series Train Man, which, originally known as Densha Otoko, has run the gamut of adaptations into various forms of media since its inception as a purportedly true story on a Japanese BBS.
Don’t get too excited, since all of this remains in the formative stages of the formative stages. It’s practically pre-embryonic at this point, but the concepts of these properties as live-action Hollywood films is something interesting to chew on.
