Hideaki Anno Apologizes for Evangelion Delay

Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo was released way back in 2012, and there’s still one more Rebuild movie—Evangelion 3.0+1.0, AKA Evangelion: Final—to go in the series. However, with series mastermind Hideaki Anno as busy as can be, currently with the upcoming Godzilla Resurgence, fans have been kept waiting for quite some time. If it’s any consolation, Anno is sorry.

Here’s what Anno had to say to fans regarding the wait:

“To all the Evangelion fans, I’m really, really keeping you all waiting. I am truly sorry.”

He went on to talk about how much Eva means to him, saying, “Evangelion can only be described as my soul. It’s a work that chips off parts of me.” It’s clear that making the third film took a lot out of him, to the point where he thought he wasn’t going to continue on to the next one.

That’s when the offer for Godzilla came in.

“At that time, I went into talks with Toho, and it saved me,” Anno said. “I think this is how I’m able to keep making Evangelion. However, since it is a fact that I’m making everyone wait, I deeply apologize for that.”
