Here’s How DAN DA DAN: EVIL EYE Did in US Box Office Opening Weekend

DAN DA DAN: EVIL EYE, which combines the end of the first season and the start of the second, officially hit American theaters on Friday. Now that it’s Monday, the numbers are in and we can see how it did over its opening weekend!

It took the eighth spot, placing behind the live-action Lilo & Stitch, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Karate Kid: Legends, Final Destination: Bloodlines, The Phoenician Scheme, and Bring Her Back. In total, it raked in approximately $3,096,000, and 1,085 theaters offered it to moviegoers.

The second season of DAN DA DAN is scheduled to arrive on July 3.

As a comparison to some recent American theatrical releases of anime movies and how they did during their first few days, SPY x FAMILY CODE: White took fifth place and earned $4.8 million; Look Back took twelfth place and earned $688,253; and Attack on Titan: THE LAST ATTACK, which had a very limited run during less than a week in February, earned $2.54 million.

GKIDS gave this description for DAN DA DAN: EVIL EYE:

DAN DA DAN: EVIL EYE Plot

DAN DA DAN follows Momo, a high school girl from a family of spirit mediums, and her classmate Okarun, an occult geek. In this new arc, Momo and Okarun set out on their latest adventure, traveling to a hot springs town home rented by Jiji, Momo’s childhood friend and former crush, with the goal to solve the mystery surrounding his family. When they arrive, strange locals derail their investigation before it can properly begin, and the group soon learns there’s more lurking under the surface of the town than they could possibly have imagined.

Based on the popular manga by Yukinobu Tatsu, DAN DA DAN is an electrifying, action-packed love letter to sci-fi and horror with the heart of a ruthlessly funny teen rom-com. In DAN DA DAN: EVIL EYE co-directors Fuga Yamashiro and Abel Gongora bring fans a new story in the latest series from cutting-edge animation studio Science SARU (The Colors Within, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off) with pulse-pounding original music from kensuke ushio (Chainsaw Man).
