It seems like just yesterday that I was here writing about FUNi’s announcement of their One Piece episode 403 simulcast, but this follow-up of sorts has me in a much more sour mood. Turns out that some rapscallion(s) ruined it for everyone else by getting into FUNimation’s servers and leaking the episode prior even to its Japanese debut.
The company released a statement on the matter, an excerpt from which is posted below:
An unknown individual accessed and posted episode 403 online and as a direct result of this illegal act, all U.S. and Canadian fans will be deprived of access to this great anime series for the immediate future.
I’m not even remotely caught up with the show and this bums me out. I was going to check out the site when it launched without spoiling the content for myself, but it’s the fans that were really amped to watch the next chapter of the story just an hour after its debut that I’m especially bummed for. I guess even when things are being offered for free that’s not enough for some.
Hopefully these issues will be resolved soon. I’ll update this post with anything substantial that comes out of FUNimation’s camp this week.
