Fujiko F. Fujio’s Short Stories on the Small Screen

Doraemon co-creator Fujiko F. Fujio may not be with us anymore, but his stories live on and, come October 31, will light up the WOWOW premium television service at midnight. The stories in question belong to his Ishoku Tanpen-Shū (Unique Short Stories), a collection of manga fiction that ran in a variety of magazines from 1975-1981.

Though Fujio is definitely most well-known for his involvement in creating one of the most legendary cartoon icons in Japan’s history, these stories, which will be known on television as Fujiko F. Fujio’s Parallel Space, look like they might add a nice twist to late-night programming. The first episode, “Nebumi Camera,” sounds like the plot that would be at home in the 1987 Friday the 13th TV series. And yes, that’s a good thing (to me, at least)!
