Japan has a new Studio Ghibli collection on the way on December 1, and it includes the first on-disc release of the first Ghiblies short. The Ghibli ga Ippai Kantoku mo Ippai Collection box set puts the spotlight on works from directors other than co-founders Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki, and also comes with a commentary booklet.

Movies included are 1993’s Ocean Waves (Tomomi Mochizuki), 1995’s Whisper of the Heart (Yoshifumi Kondo), 2002’s The Cat Returns (Hiroyuki Morita), 2002’s Ghiblies: Episode 2 (Yoshiyuki Momose), 2006’s Tales from Earthsea (Goro Miyazaki), 2010’s The Secret World of Arrietty (Hiromasa Yonebayashi), 2011’s From Up on Poppy Hill (Goro Miyazaki), 2014’s When Marnie Was There (Hiromasa Yonebayashi), 2016’s The Red Turtle (Michael Dudok de Wit), and 2020’s Earwig and the Witch (Goro Miyazaki).
The first Ghiblies short can be found on the disc that includes The Cat Returns and Ghiblies: Episode 2.
