The final chapter of Atsushi Ohkubo’s Fire Force manga is officially out in the wild in Japan as of this year’s 13th issue of Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine. The last page of the closing chapter includes a note from the editorial department, which asks fans to “look forward to Atsushi Ohkubo’s next work.”
When, or if, this next work will happen is anyone’s guess. Back in May 2020, Ohkubo said, “I plan for this to be my last manga, so please accompany me until the very end.” Either Ohkubo is reconsidering that, or this is just an example of a stock phrase typically used as a manga series concludes.
Beyond whatever Ohkubo may or may not be working on next, the issue with the final Fire Force chapter also teased an “important announcement” for the series, so stay tuned for more on that soon.
Crunchyroll streamed the first two seasons of the Fire Force anime adaptation as they aired and describes the series:
Tokyo is burning, and citizens are mysteriously suffering from spontaneous human combustion all throughout the city! Responsible for snuffing out this inferno is the Fire Force, and Shinra is ready to join their fight. Now, as part of Company 8, he’ll use his devil’s footprints to help keep the city from turning to ash! But his past and a burning secret behind the scenes could set everything ablaze.
