The world of Final Fantasy X is making its way to the stage in a kabuki performance this spring, and we now have our first video look at kabuki actor Nakamura Yonekichi as Yuna. The results are a hypnotic video recreation of a famous Final Fantasy X sequence that has Yuna performing the Sending ritual.
Check it out for both the performance itself and a sample of some of the digital effects being put to use throughout the theatrical experience.
New Kabuki: Final Fantasy X will be performed at IHI Stage Around Tokyo—which has a 360º stage with the audience seats placed on a rotating tray in the center—in Toyosu, Tokyo next spring. Kabuki actor Kikunosuke Onoe—who is also worked on the kabuki adaptation of Hayao Miyazaki’s Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind—performs and co-directs the play.
