Evangelion Spear of Longinus Project Opens To International Backers

The Spear of Longinus crowdfunding project, which aims to fly a replica of the Evangelion spear to the moon, is now accepting international backers.

Supporters from outside Japan can choose either the 5,000 or 50,000 yen tiers. The 5,000 yen tier rewards include a personal certificate, certificate of participation and name recognition. The 50,000 yen tier gets your name laser-inscribed on the spear itself, back-of-iPhone style.

Just the other day, we were remarking the project – which aims to raise 100 million yen by April 5 but had stalled out despite a strong start, could use help from the rest of the world.

But with about a week left, it’s questionable whether international backers will be able to make up the 60 million yen (about $500,000).
