Doomsday Train Anime From Shirobako Director Hits April 1

Doomsday Train Anime From Shirobako Director Hits April 1No April Fools joke, folks: Shūmatsu Train Doko e Iku? (Where Is the Doomsday Train Going?), the latest original anime series from director Tsutomu Mizushima (Shirobako, Girls und Panzer), will hit screens April 1.

That’s the word from a new commercial for the series, which you can see below.

We’ve also learned that the property will receive a manga adaptation, told from the perspective of the character Akira. The manga will debut March 25 on the KadoComi website.

Michiko Yokote is on series composition for the anime, with namo handling original character designs and Asako Nishida adapting those character designs and providing chief animation direction.

The story finds an unusual event befalling the residents of a rural Japanese town, after which lead character Shizuru Chikura and her friends end up commandeering an abandoned train and embarking on a journey to the outside world. When we catch up with them, they’re on the hunt for Shizuru’s best friend who mysteriously disappeared.
