October 1, 2010 While you shouldn’t get too excited over that headline, you should at least get somewhat excited, because Cyborg 009 is coming back! That’s an entirely true statement, despite the fact that they’ll only be coming back in a brief burst of CG courtesy Production I.G. and Mamoru Oshii.
Created by Shotaro Ishinomori (Kikaider, everything else that’s good in life) back in the mid-sixties, 009 has been no stranger since to adaptations and reboots. Many of you probably saw their more recent animated exploits on Cartoon Network a few years back, for instance.
Thanks to Panasonic, their next collective adventure will be a computer animated wonder from Production I.G., with direction by Ghost in the Shell‘s Mamoru Oshii and music composed by Kenji Kawai. Panasonic will be showing off the clip—which ultimately clocks in at just under five minutes—at their CEATEC Japan 2010 trade show booth.
