As we wait for THE FIRST SLAM DUNK anime film to hit U.S. theaters on July 28, Toei Animation treated us all to something special. As of July 18, the original 1993 Slam Dunk anime—which marked the first adaptation of Takehiko Inoue’s classic manga—is available to stream for free in high definition on the Toei Animation YouTube channel.
The first 10 episodes are available now, with more episodes to be added each week until the full series is on YouTube. You can start with the first episode in glorious HD below.
The Slam Dunk anime is also available to stream on Crunchyroll, but not in HD, and the manga is available from VIZ Media. Here’s the official anime synopsis:
Hanamichi Sakuragi, an entering freshman at Shohoku High, holds a record for being rejected by 50 girls during middle school. Ever since the last girl turned him down for a guy on the basketball team, Sakuragi’s been traumatized by the sport.
