Of all the anime films coming out this year, the one we’re looking forward to most might just be Children of the Sea (Kaiju no Kodomo).
Due out in Japan June 7, the Studio 4°C-produced adaptation of the manga by Daisuke Igarashi features talent like director Ayumu Watanabe (After the Rain), producer Eiko Tanaka (Tekkon Kinkreet, Mind Game) and composer Joe Hisaishi (like all of Hayao Miyazaki’s movies ever).
Now we’ve got a new look at the film via a teaser poster, and some cast details.
Cast:
Mana Ashida as Ruka Yasuumi
Hiiro Ishibashi as Umi
Airu Kubozuka as Sora
Sumiko Fuji as Dede
Goro Inagaki as Masaaki Yasuumi
Yuu Aoi as Kanako Yasuumi
Tooru Watanabe as Sensei
Here’s how Viz Media describes Igarashi’s original manga:
When Ruka was younger, she saw a ghost in the water at the aquarium where her dad works. Now she feels drawn toward the aquarium and the two mysterious boys she meets there, Umi and Sora. They were raised by dugongs and hear the same strange calls from the sea as she does.
