Broken Blade movies to become TV series spanning 12 episodes

Perhaps some of you are familiar with Broken Blade? It’s an ongoing fantasy manga by Yunosuke Yoshinaga about a world in which people can use magic to do stuff like operate giant mechs. More specifically, it’s about Rygart Arrow, one of the few people in his world who can’t use that magic. Bummer.


Broken Blade was adapted into anime in a pretty unique fashion: rather than a TV series, Production I.G turned Broken Blade into six separate 50-minute films that premiered between 2010 and 2011 (they’re currently all available via Sentai Filmworks and on Crunchyroll).

Anyway, the news is it looks like the Broken Blade films are about to to be TV-ized. Starting this April, Broken Blade will begin airing on Japanese TV in a 12-episode series made from the original six films. But it won’t be as simple as cutting the films in half: apparently several scenes will be recut and new animation will be added. There’ll also be new opening and ending themes.

It’s not a completely new series, but hey, potentially cool news for hardcore fans of Broken Blade. What say ye?
