Bread Thief Picture Book Gets Anime AdaptationPan Dorobo (Bread Thief), a popular series of picture books by Keiko Shibata, is getting anime-ized.

The picture books, which have been described as “surreal,” are about a mouse that disguises itself as a loaf of bread to sneak into a bakery and steal bread. The first book was published in 2020, and the series has won awards including the Grand Prize at the 11th Libro Picture Book Awards and the first prize at the 1st Tsutaya Picture Book Awards.

Details about the anime have not yet been revealed, but today we got a celebratory illustration from Pan Dorobo creator Shibata.

The latest book in the series is due out in Japan on September 10.
