Arby’s Pays Tribute to FLCL in Twitter Video

The Twitter account for Arby’s, long known for giving shoutouts to geeks of all stripes, has done it again.

This time, the social media feed for the fast food chain is paying tribute to Gainax’s cult classic FLCL with a short video that’ll be instantly recognizable to anyone who’s seen the series.

One of FLCL’s most iconic visual elements was Haruko Haruhara’s yellow Vespa SS180 scooter, which was adorned with a sticker that read P!. That scooter made a live-action appearance in the series’ ending credits, in which it moved around Tokyo in stop motion.

In the Arby’s version, a similar scooter (it looks like this one’s a Stella) makes its way to Arby’s, where it picks up a couple take-out bags before spinning around just like in the series.

The tweet reads “Ride on shooting star,” a reference to the ending theme performed by the band The Pillows.

The Pillows (and, if the trailer is anything to go by, the iconic yellow scooter) will return for FLCL 2 and 3 in 2018.
